The 9th edition (2026) of the European Professional Go Championship, the “Tsinghua Weiqi Foundation Cup,” is one of the most important professional Go competitions in Europe, organized by the Romanian Go Federation in partnership with the European Go Federation and with the support of the Tsinghua Weiqi Foundation. The Go Festival in Curtea de Argeș celebrates the game and its community, featuring the National Team Championship on April 4–5, the National Pair Championship on April 6–7, and the National Women’s Championship on April 8–9, 2026, supporting female participation.
The 40th Individual National Championship, marking 40 years of Go in Romania, will take place in Cluj-Napoca, celebrating the history and community of Romanian Go. The competition is open to all licensed players of the Romanian Go Federation and brings together players of all generations, in a spirit of respect, competition, and the joy of the game.
The championship dedicated to students will take place in Bucharest and brings together Go enthusiasts from universities across the country. The competition provides a relaxed yet competitive environment where young players can test their strategy, make friends, and enjoy the game.
The Regional Semifinals of the Romania Cup will take place simultaneously in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, and Timișoara, bringing together players from across the country in these three major centers of Romanian Go. The competition is exclusively reserved for DDK (double-digit kyu) players and represents an essential step toward the Romania Cup Finals.
The Dream Primer Cup, now in its 4th edition, brings together the Romanian Go community, welcoming Romanian players from around the world to Bucharest, home for the joy of playing together. The private competition will take place in a friendly atmosphere, reflecting the spirit of Romanian Go.
The National 9×9 and 13×13 Championship will take place in Polovragi, in a remarkable natural setting near the Olteț Gorge and Polovragi Cave, featuring two days of Go on the “small board,” with fast-paced games, a friendly atmosphere, and the joy of playing alongside fellow enthusiasts.
The Romania Cup Finals will take place in Sibiu, bringing together the strongest players in the country in a top-level competition, decisive in determining the Cup winners. Participation is open to players starting from SDK (single-digit kyu), along with those qualified from the Regional Semifinals.
The beginners’ tournament will take place in Sibiu, at the same time as the Romania Cup Finals, giving all Go enthusiasts the opportunity to play and watch the country’s top players, the Cup finalists, compete live.
The second national festival of the year, the Juniors’ Festival, will take place in Vatra Dornei and will include several competitions for players of different ages, namely the National Rapid Championship, the National Junior Individual Championship, the National Junior Team Championship, and the National Youth Championship.
This year, the Hikaru Cup reaches its 14th edition and, together with the Hikaru Gold Cup, will take place in Bucharest, continuing the wonderful tradition of Hikaru competitions.
The Ambassador’s Cup will take place in Bucharest at the Palace of the Parliament, a prestigious event bringing together the country’s top players in an elegant setting, inspired by the original spirit of Go. At the end of the competition, the Romanian Go Gala will take place, where awards will be given for excellence, talent, and contributions to the development of the community, celebrating achievement and passion for the game.
